Bonus! Molasses cookie edition.

IMG_0182.JPG

You will really love these cookies when you see how easy they are to make! I am all about the one bowl cookie and also about recipes that make a gazillion. Because then? On one of those nights when you have to have something sweet, you pull cookie dough out of the freezer and viola! Ten minutes and you've saved yourself a trip to the grocery store at 10pm to get donuts! Not that we ever do that...ever.

OLD FASHIONED MOLASSES COOKIES LIKE
GRANDMA MADE

1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. molasses
1 c. Crisco shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp. soda dissolved in 2/3 c. hot water
4 to 5 c. flour (about 4 1/2 works)
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. ginger
3 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. cloves

Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 10 minutes. They split on top when they are done.

* I also sprinkled the tops with raw sugar to make them sparkly. Apparently I am all about the sparkle.

** I also refrigerated my batter overnight. Not on purpose but because my kids woke up before I could start to bake them. Many of the recipes suggest you do that so the flavors of the spices can blend.

Now go make them and dunk them in your coffee. Pure Heaven!

I will have to give these a try. I've never had molasses cookies, but have a recipe for ginger snaps, that includes molasses, and they are awesome! I'll try them out soon and let you know how I like them. Thanks for the recipe.

You will not be disappointed if you like chewy soft cookies!

And I was trying to judge how many they make...at least 4 dozen! Wow-za!

Yummy! I think I just gained 5 lbs. reading the recipe though...thanks dude.
I'm doing a cookie exchange in December. I have to have 5 different kinds of cookies. I think this is going to be cookie #1 for me.

Catching up a bit....the kids are gorgeous! And they do look a lot alike. Mine look a lot alike side by side as well.
Mia requested I be the Wicked Witch of the West for Halloween. She was Dorothy. Dom was the Lion. She had everyone assigned a character. I had no idea how I ended up being the freakin' witch. I carry her for nine months and that's what I get? :-)

Yummo...that looks really easy too... I may share this w/ my baker (AKA my dad)
I have a dumb question (I DON'T BAKE)...do you buy "powdered" ginger and cloves??? I have only seen in the root and seed version??

AnnieM said...

MP- not dumb at all! Around the holidays they sell them powdered everywhere. The two stores I shop at actully have special holiday baking sections with strange things like mincemeat. Who the hell eats mincemeat?

But to answer your question, yes they are all powdered.

OMG!!! Annie, if there's one thing I cannot eat, it's mincemeat! Some of the people here love mincemeat pie and mincemeat tarts. Just to be polite, I tried some at someone's house. Let's just say that I'm fortunate that mincemeat pie is one pie I don't have to worry about overindulging in! LOL!
